PRESS RELEASE: Tabletop gaming app from Finland started funding on Indiegogo

Helsinki, Finland, August 29th, 2017 – Playmore Games, a Helsinki-based gaming company, started a crowdfunding campaign for their Dized tabletop gaming app yesterday on Indiegogo. The campaign has already reached over 35 % of its funding goal in less than 24 hours.

Dized is a tabletop gaming app for smart phones and tablets. It removes the tedious rulebooks and gets gamers playing right out of the box. These step-by-step visual and interactive tutorials are like a friend at the table who knows the rules inside out.

The rising tabletop gaming market and potential for an app like Dized is an interesting opportunity for Indiegogo. The market size is growing and one reason is crowdfunding campaigns and Indiegogo wants to be the best crowdfunding platform for tabletop gamers. Dized is one of the most promising products to rise from this category, so this is the perfect fit for both companies.

“I discovered Dized over a year ago and been captivated ever since. It’s a really great way to keep gaming growing by removing the biggest obstacle for board games, which is rulebooks. Dized is innovative, disruptive and unique and that is what Indiegogo looks for. And we’re happy to be supporting this project,” explains Nate Murray, the gaming consultant for Indiegogo.

Playmore Games has earlier announced the initial line-up of board games to be featured in Dized. They are hugely popular games such as Carcassonne, Blood Rage, 7 Wonders, Bang! and Kingdomino.

“If you love playing games and don’t like reading rulebooks, there’s no reason for you not to support Dized right now. Dized differs from a regular “How To Play” video, because videos aren’t context sensitive. With Dized you can experience the game as you are learning it. You can even ask it rule-related questions,” explains Eric M. Lang, the designer of Blood Rage.

A successful crowdfunding campaign will allow a rapid expansion of the content in Dized, so in the future tutorials will be available for the most new games. Dized isn’t all about tutorials though as the intention is to create a one-stop app for the whole tabletop gaming community with downloadable content, a marketplace, community features and other useful tools. Backers can also receive special perks such as discounted subscription prices for premium features, special badges, early access and collector’s edition dice sets.

Global sales of tabletop games and puzzles have grown to $9.6 billion in 2016. Board games raised twice as much money compared to video games on crowdfunding platforms in 2015. The tabletop gaming market is expected to continue growing for at least the next five years. Tabletop gaming is growing in popularity again not only because of crowdfunding but also because families, kids and millennials are looking for new ways to spend time together.

PRESS RELEASE: PLAY BOARD GAMES IMMEDIATELY WITH DIZED

PRESS RELEASE: PLAY BOARD GAMES IMMEDIATELY WITH DIZED

Dized announces Blood Rage, 7 Wonders, Carcassonne, and Bang! to be first games to get custom Dized tutorials. The IndieGoGo campaign for the app launches on August 28th.

[Helsinki, Finland, July 27, 2017] If you ever just wanted to pick up a brand new board game, sit down and play straight out of the box, soon you will be able to. Dized is an application that puts players in the game from the moment the box is opened with interactive tutorials. These step-by-step guides are like a friend at the table who knows the rules inside out and the best way to teach them. Most importantly, the app allows players to make their own decisions and choices and reacts accordingly.

The company announced today the initial line-up of interactive tutorials slated for the app. The first games to receive the Dized treatment are Blood Rage, 7 Wonders, Carcassonne and Bang! In the works are tutorials and other content related to these games, such as the setup and the rule lookup tools.

“We’re thrilled to be working with such esteemed titles and publishers. The diversity of this library shows that Dized works with a variety of different games, ranging from casual to core. Eventually, we want to bring these tutorials for all games out there, and that’s one of the reasons why we’re crowdfunding Dized through IndieGoGo – to be able to scale up in a way we wouldn’t otherwise be able”, states Dized CEO Jouni Jussila.

Dized has been under development since 2016. After a successful proof of concept released last year, a new version of the app is now ready to show the real potential of Dized

“We’ve discussed with players from all backgrounds and one thing is clear: there is a need for a better way to learn games. Dized has already been tested with audiences and the feedback has been spectacular, not just among players but with all branches of the industry,” Jussila continues.

Dized’s partners include some of the biggest names in board game industry, such as dV Giochi, Hans Im Glück and acclaimed designer Eric M. Lang.

“If you love playing games and don’t like reading rulebooks, there’s no reason for you not to support Dized right now. Dized is different from a regular “How To Play” video, because videos aren’t context sensitive. With Dized you can experience the game as you are learning it. You can even ask it rule- related questions,” Eric M. Lang explains.

Dized is free to download and available before the campaign starts with demo content. During the campaign, backers will be able to purchase subscriptions that give access to premium features. On top of the interactive tutorials, rule lookup, and setup tools, the team has big plans for Dized. The goal is to create the ultimate companion app, no matter if you’re looking for community features, expo tools or additional digital content.

“Our goal is to create a one-stop-shop for board games. So come August 28th when the IndieGoGo campaign launches, be sure to show up and change the world of board gaming forever. We have tons of awesome perks lined up, and big game announcements to follow”, concludes Jussila.

PRESS RELEASE: Revenues for Commercial Game-Based Education, Training Products To Hit $3.2 Billion Globally in 2017; with CAGR of 20.2%, Market is on Path To Be $8.1 Billion in 5 years

LOS ANGELES – July 24, 2017 — Serious games – those designed for education or training – are on a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20.2% globally, suggesting revenues will more than double to $8.1 billion by 2022, according to Metaari, the foremost analyst firm covering the market.  In 2017, global revenues will hit $3.2 billion.  And that number includes only retail packaged (off-the-shelf) products.  It does not include revenues for hardware, devices, platforms, tools or custom content development services.
Several convergent catalysts are driving the global game-based learning market, according to Metaari in its 2017-2022 Global Game-based Learning Market Report:
  • Organizational resistance to learning that includes game play is fading fast
  • The growing availability of easy-to-use development tools
  • Exponential innovation in Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR, and Mixed Reality (MR)
  • An upsurge of new next-generation educational games coming to the market
  • The impending rollouts of very fast 5G networks and the Internet of Things (IoT)
In 2017, consumers were the top buyers of educational games, followed by primary schools and corporations. The three buying segments with the highest growth rates are corporations (35.7%), preschool (30.7%) and higher education institutions (26.3%).
By 2022, corporations will the second-largest buyer group after consumers.
The highest revenue generating educational products are early childhood learning games, brain trainers and language learning games.  The serious games with the highest growth rates are virtual reality educational games, at a breathtaking 47.9%.
Eight game-based learning buying segments are analyzed in the Metaari report: consumer, preschool, primary schools, secondary schools, tertiary and higher education institutions, federal government agencies, provincial/state and local government agencies and corporations.  The report also lists more than 300 suppliers operating across the globe to help companies identify partners, distributors and resellers.
Metaari’s report analyses size, growth and trends in seven regions: Africa, Asia Pacific, Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, North America, and Western Europe and has two sections: a demand-side analysis and a supply-side analysis for eight buying segments.  For the U.S., Metaari provides a detailed breakout including information on major serious game studios and market cataysts.
Sam Adkins, CEO, Metaari, provided highlights of his 100+ page report to attendees at the 2017 Serious Play Conference, an annual gathering of the thought leaders in the serious games industry.  Product revenue forecasts are based on Metaari’s proprietary game-based learning pedagogical framework, which identifies 11 unique types of educational games. The framework provides suppliers with a precise method of tapping specific revenue streams and a concise instructional design specification for the development of effective educational games.
The Metaari report is available for sale at the price of $499

PRESS RELEASE: SENSIBLE OBJECT LAUNCHES NEW KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN FOR BEASTS OF BALANCE, INTRODUCES NEW BATTLES EXPANSION FOR POPULAR AUGMENTED REALITY STACKING GAME

PRESS RELEASE: SENSIBLE OBJECT LAUNCHES NEW KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN FOR BEASTS OF BALANCE, INTRODUCES NEW BATTLES EXPANSION FOR POPULAR AUGMENTED REALITY STACKING GAME

LONDON (July 11, 2017)  – Today, Sensible Object, a London-based game studio with a mission to create innovative hybrid games for a more connected world, is launching its second Kickstarter campaign for its award-winning augmented reality stacking game, Beasts of Balance.

Beasts of Balance is a game of dexterity, strategy and creation. Players take on the role of Divine Creators, tasked to play solo or with friends to build worlds and reach high scores by stacking magical Artefacts into incredible towers. But this is no standard dexterity game – everything added to the tower interacts with a world that evolves on a wirelessly connected digital device. To succeed, players have to keep their tower and the ecosystem of their world in balance, stacking all 24 pieces and caring for the virtual beasts they create.

Players of all ages have praised Beasts of Balance for its smart use of technology, its beautiful design, and its truly inclusive gameplay. It’s at the cutting edge of a new frontier in gaming – merging the sophistication of video games with the social fun of tabletop.

This year’s campaign introduces a series of expansions to Beasts of Balance, including a new competitive gameplay mode known as ‘BATTLES’ and gorgeous new physical pieces to collect. BATTLES gives players an adrenaline-filled new way to play with the 24 pieces in the core game, adding even more depth, variety and value.

Alex Fleetwood, founder and CEO of Sensible Object, says; “We had an incredible experience with Kickstarter last year. 18 months ago, we were a start-up team with nothing but a prototype. Thanks in large part to the support of the Kickstarter platform and its community, we were able to bring this ambitious, groundbreaking game to life. Having shipped the game on time to an amazing response, we’re ready to take things to the next level. Our players and backers have been hungry for new ways to play and new pieces to collect, and we can’t wait to share our work with them.”

In BATTLES, two to three players each take on the role of a Divine Creator of a single region: Land, Sea or Sky. The aim is to fill your region with powerful beasts while stealing and destroying those of your opponents.

“We are huge fans of cooperative gaming, but our customers have expressed requests for a competitive mode of gameplay, and so BATTLES was brought to life,” added Fleetwood.

The BATTLES expansion pack contains 16 augmented reality BATTLE cards – containing the same NFC technology as the physical game pieces. Each player wields a hand of these cards, enabling them to invoke a whole host of weird and wonderful effects on the digital realm. Some are focused on attack, some will aid in defense, and some will manifest in much more surprising ways! The BATTLES pack also contains a new Legendary Beast ‘Magmaaargh The Cantankerous’ that introduces some wild and hilarious action into the mix.

The More Beasts Pack introduces three brand new, beautifully designed beasts for players to collect: sassy Flamingo, impossibly cute Chameleon and slightly dopey Angler Fish. When played into the game, these new beasts can be crossed and evolved to create over 100 fabulous new digital hybrids.

Beasts of Balance was also featured on a past Boardgame Babylon Podcast – listen here (game had a different name).

The Kickstarter campaign also offers backers new to Beasts of Balance the chance to join in the fun with a great deal on the core game. As a thanks for supporting the campaign and helping Sensible Object to make all these new features a reality, Kickstarter backers will get early access to BATTLES, a discount on the retail price, and the opportunity to grab bonus items, including Ghost Crab, a spooky crustacean that you should probably keep alive. If the campaign is a success, backers should keep an eye out for other stretch goals to be added during the campaign.

The Kickstarter campaign launches 8am London time and 3am Eastern Standard time on July 11th, and runs through August 7th. Backers will receive their copies of Beasts of Balance within 90 days of the end of the campaign, and all new expansions and add-ons in Spring 2018.
