PRESS RELEASE: Palm Trees is coming from WizKids

Flaunt Your Fronds in Palm Trees—Coming Soon!

Hillside, NJ – March 19, 2019 – WizKids is pleased to announce the upcoming release of Palm Trees, its new dexterity game of lush leaves and fabulous fronds!

In this dexterity game of quite literal “hand management,” players compete to grow the most verdant trees on a tropical island. To start, players will place their elbows on the table, arms straight up, forming the trunk of their palm tree.  Each player holds a number of cards, representing fronds and coconuts, in their hand. Each card indicates the way in which the player must add it to their hand. Frond cards are simpler, while coconut cards tend to have more difficult rules players must follow.

Each turn, a player will select one of three available cards on the table to have an opponent add to their tree. Each card has a rule on how it must be held: frond cards are simpler, while coconut cards have more difficult rules. Some cards require a player to hold them between two specific fingers, or potentially between their fingers and their palm. When a card is added to a player’s palm tree, they must continue to follow the rules indicated on all the other cards in their hand. Breaking any of these rules would be considered dropping a card, which ends the game.

If the game ends with a dropped card, the player who dropped the card will not score any points for that game. The game also ends when all cards have been placed in all trees. When the game ends, players add up the points on each of the cards in their respective hands, and the player with the most points wins!

The game can also be played teams of two, with one player acting as the tree while the other adds the fronds and coconuts. In this alternate way of playing, each team simultaneously builds their tree instead of taking turns. The game ends as normal. For extra fun, 6 tree trunk tattoo sleeves have been included with the game—these can be worn by players for extra immersion into the mind of an island tree. Palm Trees will release in June 2019, so be sure to preorder at your Friendly Local Game Store or online today!

PRESS RELEASE: Nemo Rising coming from WizKids

Experience Daring Adventures with Captain Nemo and the Crew of the Nautilus in Nemo Rising—Coming Son!

Hillside, NJ – March 4, 2019 – WizKids is excited to announce the upcoming release of Nemo Rising, a cooperative adventure game based on C. Courtney Joyner’s thrilling sequel to Jules Verne’s classic novel!

In this exciting 1-4 player adventure game, players become members of a reimagined version of the Nautilus’ heroic crew, and must carry out missions in order to successfully complete the requirements of one of two scenarios— The Undersea Grotto or the City in the Sky. Each scenario represents a unique location with its own geography, environment, and adventures.

Players work together to accomplish the Mission Goals outlined on the game’s Mission Cards. Each round consists of two phases, the Action Row Phase and the Player Phase. During the Action Row Phase, a number of Threat Cards will be placed face down in the Action Row, and then the same number of Action Cards will be placed face up on top of them. The Player Phase then begins. During the player phase, each player can move around the board, scout Adventure Tiles, attempt Tasks, and confront Enemy Tokens. Player turns can be taken in any order, and the order can change each round. The game may be played solo, with one player controlling a single Hero. In this case, there are always two stacks of cards in the Action Row during the Action Row Phase.

The game ends and the Heroes win if they complete all of the Mission Goals on the game’s two Mission Cards, secure at least 4 Adventure Tiles, and then return to the Start space. All Heroes must be on the Start space at the same time in order for them to win. The Heroes lose, however, if they run out of Mission Points on the Mission Track.

With its exciting and unpredictable adventures, Nemo Rising is the perfect way to experience the escapades of Captain Nemo and his crew directly from the captain’s seat. Board the Nautilus and pre-order Nemo Rising, releasing this fall, from your Friendly Local Game Store today! Are you up for the adventure?

PRESS RELEASE: It’s Feline Feeding Time in Kibble Scuffle —Coming Soon!

PRESS RELEASE: It’s Feline Feeding Time in Kibble Scuffle —Coming Soon!

Hillside, NJ – January 16, 2019 – WizKids is excited to announce that Kibble Scuffle, an adorable romp through feeding time with your mischievous feline friends, is coming soon!

In Kibble Scuffle, it’s time to feed your cats! Players compete to feed their cats the most points in food cubes by the end of the game. They will send cats to Food Bowls by playing cards, and resolve the cats’ abilities as they arrive. When there are at least 5 cats at any bowl after resolving abilities, the Feeding Phase begins. Players are able to feed their cats and collect food cubes, which are worth varying amounts of points. When a player reaches 20 points or more at the end of a Feeding Phase, the game ends and the player who has the most food cubes wins.

There are several different kinds of feline friends to feed in Kibble Scuffle—from the generous Mama Cat, who allows another cat at the bowl to feed, to the mischievous Trickster Cat, who exchanges food cubes between bowls. The game even features four adorable Kittens, who draw their fellow kittens to the Food Bowls. Kibble Scuffle’s innovative packaging doesn’t just hold the game—the box also doubles as the game’s Cat Food Box, allowing players to have the most immersive feline feeding experience possible! Kibble Scuffle arrives in game stores soon, so be sure to preorder it at your Friendly Local Game Store or online today!

What’s It All About?

Using the game box as a cat food box to store the food cubes, players take turns placing their cats at bowls and resolving their abilities. For example, the Pounce Cat removes a cat at a bowl. The Greedy Cat eats two food cubes. The Mangy Cat forces another cat to move away from their bowl. Once there are 5 cats at any food bowl, the feeding (scoring) phase begins, followed by a new round.

Kibble Scuffle is a tactical card game of area control to try and get the best food for your feline friends. With cards like the Robo-Vac and Laser Pointer, you can use toys to strategically distract your opponent’s cats.

Once a player reaches 20 points, the player with the most value of food cubes eaten at the end of the feeding phase wins.

Components:

4 x Player Decks of 20 Cards Each
5 x Advanced Cards for Each Deck
55 x Food Cubes
3 x Food Bowl Tiles

PRESS RELEASE: Take Matters Into Your Own Hands in Maiden’s Quest—Available Now!

Hillside, NJ – August 29, 2018 – WizKids is thrilled to announce that Maiden’s Quest, its new hand-based card game, is now available in North American game stores!

In this fun and easy game designed by Ken Shannon and a primarily female creative/playtesting team, a fair maiden, tired of waiting for her knight in shining armor, decides to take matters into her own hands and rescue herself from her tower. Players will become 1 of 8 different maidens, leading them through a tower, battling monsters and collecting supplies in order to ultimately take on and defeat 1 of 10 captors. The game features an innovative spin-and-flip mechanic which allows cards to represent up to four different obstacles or items.
Additionally, the game can be played entirely in the hand, as cards are cycled to the back of the deck throughout play. This enables players to play anytime, anywhere, and, since each encounter resolves separately, the game can be stowed away at any time to be picked up again later. The game can be played solo, co-op, or even competitively. There is a Serendipity mode where you use your deck to help someone else and as a reward for doing that, sign special cards so that when you get enough signatures, the cards gain an ability that can be added to your deck. The possibilities are endless!

PRESS RELEASE: Wizkids Release Fungeon Party

PRESS RELEASE: Wizkids Release Fungeon Party

Hillside, NJ – May 14, 2018 – WizKids is excited to announce a new game that puts the Fun in dungeon, Fungeon Party! Designed by Brian Lewis, David McGregor, Marissa Misura, and Tom Jones, this is a fast-paced, quest completion game which takes a traditional dungeon party and puts them in a truly untraditional dungeon crawler.

2 to 5 players pick a class from a list of classic adventure choices; such as Barbarian, Cleric, Ranger, and Wizard, just to name a few. Each class has their own stats, which can be upgraded as experience points are earned, as well as a special ability that will help the party complete a pile of at least 6 quests.

Quest cards are drawn from a stack and placed in the middle of all players. Using a cell phone or stopwatch, a timer is set for 30 seconds per quest, so 6 quests would be a 3-minute timer. Someone yells “GO”, the top quest card is flipped over, and the goal is to complete all quests before the timer runs out! Sounds simple, but is it?

What types of quests would you expect in a Fungeon? Stack dice on your forehead, bounce dice into the box, knock down a meeple surrounded by dice, balance a meeple on a stick. These and many more wacky quests await the brave adventures that travel through the corridors of a Fungeon!

Gather your party and check out this quick, easy, and FUN game to learn and play! Fungeon Party will be available at your Friendly Local Game Store June 2018 for $29.99. Pre-order today!

PRESS RELEASE: Working Together Is Your Key to Victory in Team Play – in Stores Now!

Editor’s Note: We previously reviewed Team Play here on Boardgame Babylon when it was only available via Schmidt Spielebecause we’re big fans of this clever game. I’m thrilled that WizKids picked it up for US distribution because this is a really fun, approachable game you can play with just about anyone. Check out our full review here.

Hillside, NJ – January 31, 2018 – WizKids is excited to announce the card game, Team Play, is now available in North American game stores! Licensed from Schmidt Spiele, you and your partner work together to complete your mission cards and earn points before the other team(s). These missions are various combinations of numbers and/or colors, such as 2 pairs of uneven numbers, or having 3 low numbers, or 5 consecutive red numbers, etc.

Unable to directly say what your goals are, you and your teammate must be able to read each other’s needs, helping to accomplish missions by passing crucial cards. The other team(s) are also trying to accomplish missions, so you must work smart and fast in order to score the most points. You are hard pressed to do this on your own, so team work is the key to winning!

Don’t have an even number of players? That’s okay, the rule book goes over an odd player count version of the game. Players have a larger hand count, but cannot pass cards between anyone. You are a team of one in a 3 and 5 player games, but the goal remains the same. Complete missions and earn more victory points then the other players.

Think you and a friend have what it takes to work together and fulfill the various missions? Or are you looking for an easy “pick up and play” party game?

Be sure to pick up Team Play from your FLGS today for $19.99! Or order on Amazon.
